An easy way to remember them: “konam” (கோணம்) means corner, so mukkonam is the shape with three (mu) corners, aingonam has five (ai) and enkonam has eight (en). Vattam is the circle, and neelvattam is a “long circle”, the oval. Point to a plate, a window, a dosa or a star in the sky and ask your child to say the shape name in Tamil.
