Thottathil Meyuthu Vellai Pasu Meaning

A white cow (vellai pasu) is grazing in the garden (thottam), and nearby her calf (kanrukutti) is jumping and skipping. The cow calls “amma!”, and the calf comes running close to her.

The cow licks her calf lovingly with her tongue, and the calf drinks the milk happily. The cow gives her calf a kiss, and the calf nudges (mutti) her udder to drink. Calves really do butt the udder gently to make the milk flow, so children can copy the “mutti” with a soft head bump.

It is one of the best known Tamil rhymes about the love between a mother and her little one.
