How to Play Kola Kolaya Mundhirika
Kola Kolaya Mundhirika is a circle game song. Munthirikkaa are cashew fruits, and “kola kolaya” means hanging in bunches; most of the other lines are fun nonsense for the rhythm.
The children sit in a circle facing inwards. One child walks round the outside with a small towel or handkerchief, singing “niraiya niraiya suththi vaa” (go round and round), and quietly drops it behind someone. At “kollaiyadichavan engirukkaan? koottaththula irukkaan kandupudi!” (where is the robber? he is in the crowd, find him!) that child has to notice the towel, pick it up and chase the walker round the circle before they sit down in the empty place.
