Kutty Paiyan Kurumbu Meaning
A song about a naughty little boy (kutty paiyan) and all his mischief (kurumbu). “He is so naughty! But he is a little bud (arumbu), sweet as a block of jaggery (achu vellam). He runs after the moon (nila), and when he sees it in the water, he jumps in to look for it!”
“He cries and cries for a sweet (mittai). Then he bites it into pieces the crow’s way (kaakka kadi), puts it in his baby brother’s mouth, and laughs.” Kaakka kadi is how Tamil children share: you cover the sweet with a cloth and bite it, so it is clean to share.
