Somberi Paiyan
Somberi Paiyan Meaning
A funny song about a lazy boy (somberi paiyan) called Rama who has an excuse for every job his mother asks him to do.
“Go to the garden, Rama.” “Foxes (narigal) will come, Amma!” “Take the cow out to graze.” “The cow will butt me!” “Light the stove (aduppu).” “My hand will burn!” “Read your lessons.” “I have no slate pencil (balpam)!” “Pick some flowers.” “A snake (paambu) will come!” “Bring the vessel.” “My legs will hurt!” “Fetch some water.” “My hands will hurt!”
“Come and eat, Rama.” “Here I come, Amma!” Children love to shout the last line. Let one child be Amma and another be Rama and act it out.
