Karadi Mama Meaning
“Uncle Bear (karadi mama) is coming! Come running here, dear (kanna)!” In the old days a man would bring a dancing bear to the village, and all the children ran out to watch the bear show (karadi viththai).
“He turns somersaults (kuttikkaranam), he hops and hops as he walks, he puts the stick on his shoulder, and he bends down and stands up to look at us. To watch the bear show, we can give ten coins!”
Children love to act it out: roll, hop, put a stick on the shoulder and bend and stretch like the bear.
