Atho Paru Road Meaning
This is a chain rhyme where each line picks up the last word of the one before. Look at the road over there (atho paru roadu)! On the road there is a car. Who is inside the car? It is our Nehru Mama! What did Nehru say? He told us to study well (nalla padikka sonnaru).
Jawaharlal Nehru loved children, and in Tamil they call him Nehru Mama, uncle Nehru. His birthday, 14 November, is celebrated as Children’s Day in India, and this rhyme is a favourite at school on that day.
