Kanne Kannurangu Meaning
This is a thalattu, a Tamil lullaby. The mother rocks her child and asks it to close its eyes and sleep (kannurangu), calling it my darling (kanne), my precious girl (sella penne), my deer (maane), eyes of a deer (maanin vizhiye), my honey (thene) and honey of the flower (poovin thene). The soft “aari aariro” at the end is the humming sound of every Tamil lullaby. Sing it slowly and keep repeating it until the little one falls asleep.
