வளர்க்கும் உழவர் வாழ்கவே;
உண்டு பண்ணித் தருபவர் ;
நனைந்து போக உழைப்பவர்;

Uzhavar Vazhga Song Meaning
This song thanks the farmer (uzhavar), and it is sung most of all at Thai Pongal, the harvest festival. “Long live the farmer who gives us food to eat, long live the farmer who ploughs the soil and grows the crops.”
From one grain he makes a hundred grains of paddy (nel). He ploughs well and works until he is soaked in sweat. He guards the crops like his own eyes and so keeps every life alive. Then the song asks a question: is it fair that the one who feeds us should suffer with no food himself?
The last verse ends the song with a blessing: the one who works hard, gives us the harvest and lives for the good of the land, may he live well!
