Chanda Mama Door Ke Meaning
“Uncle Moon (chanda mama), far away, is cooking sweet pue. You eat from a plate (thaali), and give the little one (munna) his share in a cup (pyali).” But the cup broke and Munna sulked! “We will bring new cups, clapping all the way, cheer Munna up and eat milk and cream (doodh malai).”
“Munna will sit in a flying cot (udan khatola) and go to the moon’s house, and play hide and seek (aankh micholi) with the stars. When he has had enough fun, my Munna will come dancing back home.” This lullaby is from the 1955 Hindi film Vachan and is still sung to children everywhere.
