Attitta Nodadiru Meaning

A loving Kannada lullaby (jogula). “Don’t look here and there, don’t cry and toss about. Sleep is coming, so cover up and sleep, baby (maguve). Jo jo jo. Don’t roll around, don’t be stubborn (hata). Sleep is coming quietly, sleep, baby.”

“Sleep, my treasure of the cradle (tottila siri), sleep like a little god. Sleep, my dear parrot (gini), my pearl (muttina mani). They say you will go to the moon’s town (chandirana ooru). The stars will dress you in a shirt of gold thread (jaratari angi), and the moon’s little sisters will call you, put flowers in your hair, give you milk and play the veena all around you.”

“These colourful dreams melt away soon, and the day comes through the silver clouds. Then they will send you off in a golden howdah (chinnada ambari) on the royal elephant (pattadaane), little baby.”
