Dum Dum Pappadam Meaning
Pappadam is the thin, crispy wafer served with every Kerala meal. In the song the pappadam has eyes (kannulla) and cheeks (kavilulla), which are the little bubbles that puff up when it is fried. If it falls down it breaks into pieces, chata pata!
In the sadya, the feast served on a banana leaf for Onam and weddings, the pappadam is number one (onnaman), and the best one of all is the pappadam that Amma fried (kachiya). The video is a lively folk dance version of the song.
